AUGH. Why am I always so slow? ;u;
Here it is, finally! My entry for the second round of #CatwalkChallenge's very own Project Runway competition. It.... it came out far better than I hoped it would. For that I am proud of my creation, win or lose. uvu
Dylan’s Candy Bar candy used:
Black Licorice Wheels - Black stripes on dress
Nonpareils - White stripes on dress
Raspberry Rock Candy - Other half of dress
Strawberry Sour Belts - Dress straps
Chocolate Heart Candies (Wrapped) – Dress adornments and necklace charm
Dylan’s Candy Bar Stripe Wrapping Paper (Ribbon only) – Corseted back of dress
Malt Balls – Threaded into necklace
Lord & Taylor accessories used:
Jessica Simpson’s Waleo Platform Pumps
(I wish there were nice black pumps available on the Lord & Taylor wall. I feel like that would complete the look even better. :’D)
Allow me to elaborate on my design. uvu
For this challenge, I wanted to take advantage of the available colors of the candy. However, I am a bit timid with using color. Don’t get me wrong, I love the pop of color once in a while, but my forte is with black and white. Then, when watching the episode and seeing so much color and a whole wall of black candy, I figured why not use both? So that’s the origin of my color choice! I decided to use circular candy in black and white to create the illusion of stripes because... well, I love stripes! And I thought this would be more creative than simply using the black and cream licorice anyway.
As for the funky silhouette, I’ve always loved bubble-hem skirts. They’re so cute! Though, I don’t have much experience drawing them so I hope you think the design is quirky, not dumpy. :’D As for the ruffles (and I gotta tell ya, I love them ruffles), I figure I could make them out of black candy tinfoil. Forming the waves would be easy with an easily manipulated textile, yes? c:
